The Technion Conferred Honorary Fellowships on Individuals Who Made Outstanding Contributions to the Technion, the State of Israel, and Humanity

The ceremony took place on Tuesday, June 10, as part of the Technion Board of Governors meeting, marking 100 years since the opening of the Technion

As part of the Technion Board of Governors meeting, honorary fellowships were awarded to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Technion, the State of Israel, and humanity. The event was held in celebration of 100 years since the Technion’s establishment.

Technion President Prof. Uri Sivan said that “the Technion’s impact on Israel and the world during its first hundred years has been – and continues to be – immense and far-reaching. We educate one-third of the university-trained engineers and nearly half of the professionals who hold advanced degrees in Israel. Our high-tech and startup nation is largely built upon our alumni. This mythical impact is all made possible through the generosity of our devoted Technion family. We’re delighted to recognize six special people who, fortunately for us all, embody a deep sense of mutual responsibility and solidarity as members of the community. I’d like to thank them personally, on behalf of us all.”

Chairman of the Board of Governors, Scott Leemaster, said: “This ceremony is a look at the future.  Based on a casual examination of the histories of past fellows, it can be predicted with a high degree of confidence that these fellows before us today will go on to provide wise leadership and support for the Technion for years to come. They, and those who have come before, have displayed admirable dedication to the Technion, perpetuating a long and proud tradition. As part of the global Technion family, they are reminders of the renewed commitment we all must make to keep Technion strong.”

Barbara Dahl spoke on behalf of the award recipients, stating: “Each of us recipients of the honorary fellowships has our own reasons for wanting to be part of the work and accomplishments of the Technion, as it has led us on roads not taken. Roads of greater understanding of what a superior education means to a young person living in Israel, and most recently, at a time of great unrest and war, and how the past 100 years of graduates and professors have changed the Land of Israel.

“The Technion is a place of learning in the true sense of the word. A place where people from all over the world, of every race, gender, and religion, can learn and thrive together, knowing they are making a difference in the world and themselves. The Technion has not only helped Israel flourish, but it has also contributed to the success of medicine, science, and technology throughout the world.”
