Prof. Yonatan Belinkov and Prof. Moran Bercovici of the Technion Named New Members of the Israel Young Academy
The Israel Young Academy has welcomed seven new members, two of them from the Technion: Prof. Yonatan Belinkov from the Henry and Marilyn Taub Faculty of Computer Science, and Prof. Moran Bercovici from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
Prof. Yonatan Belinkov studies the mechanisms underlying artificial intelligence systems. He leads groundbreaking research aimed at steering AI toward beneficial behaviors and preventing it from taking harmful or dangerous actions.

Prof. Moran Bercovici focuses on developing new engineering capabilities and tools based on fluid control. His lab’s applications are diverse and include microfluidic devices for use in chemistry and biology, the creation of lenses through fluidic shaping, new methods for 3D printing, and the development of liquid-based giant space telescopes.

The Israel Young Academy was founded in 2012 at the initiative of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities. It works to promote the next generation of research in Israel, strengthen ties between science and public policy, foster dialogue between science and society, encourage interdisciplinary and international collaborations, and lead public initiatives in science. Its members are outstanding researchers who have demonstrated excellence in their work, originality of thought, and a commitment to public engagement and advancing science within Israeli society.
Prof. Assaf Shwartz, chair of the Israel Young Academy and a faculty member in the Technion’s Faculty of Architecture and Town Planning, said that the new members are joining “at a complex time, when Israeli society and academia face significant and ongoing challenges. The new members will work together with current and alumni members of the Young Academy to strengthen research in Israel and promote science, Israeli society, and public policy for the benefit of all.”
