Prof. Alon Gany Elected to Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities

Technion Aerospace Engineering Professor Emeritus Joins Prestigious Academy Alongside Five Other Distinguished Researchers

Professor Emeritus Alon Gany of the Technion’s Faculty of Aerospace Engineering has been elected to the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities alongside five other new members. The new members will join the Academy in a festive ceremony in December 2025, bringing its membership to 158 members.

A Technion alumnus, Prof. Gany joined the faculty as a staff member in 1968. He is a world-renowned expert in rocket propulsion, hybrid rockets, ramjet and scramjet propulsion, combustion, energetic materials, marine jet propulsion, hydrogen production and storage, electric power generation in fuel cells, and more. Recently, he was awarded the prestigious 2025 Wyld Propulsion Award by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics for his breakthroughs in these fields and his “sustained contribution to the education of generations of propulsion specialists.”

Technion President Prof. Uri Sivan congratulated him, saying that “Prof. Gany’s election to the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities is an honor for him – and for the Technion. Founded in 1961, the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities is the foremost scientific body in Israel, bringing together the country’s leading scientists to promote and advance science in Israel. In announcing the acceptance of the new members, Academy President Prof. David Harel said that “the Academy is blessed with six researchers of the highest caliber, whose groundbreaking work enriches diverse fields in science in Israel and throughout the world. I am confident that the new members will contribute greatly to the Academy’s activities and to strengthening Israel’s position in the global scientific community.”
