For the Fifth Consecutive Year: Technion Ranks Among the World’s Top 100 for U.S. Patents

The latest international ranking places the Technion first in Israel and second in Europe for U.S. patents granted to academic institutions

The Technion – Israel Institute of Technology ranks first in Israel, second in Europe, and 81st worldwide in U.S. patent grants for 2025. With 46 U.S. patents granted during the year, the Technion is the only Israeli university in the global top 100, maintaining its position for the fifth consecutive year.

“Behind every patent stands deep scientific thinking, and behind every license, a responsibility to create impact,” said Rona Samler, general manager of T3, the Technion’s technology transfer office, which oversees intellectual property management and technology licensing at the Technion. “Through T3, knowledge is transformed into innovation that serves society, strengthens the economy, and advances the resilience and well-being of Israel and the global community.”

The Technion’s patents span a very broad spectrum of fields, ranging from AI to 3D-printed construction to smart drug delivery systems, advanced materials, and quantum computing.

According to Prof. Yuval Garini, vice president for innovation and industry relations, “The Technion’s achievement at the top of the patent rankings is thanks to our faculty members and their students, who consistently strive for excellence. Many of them invest not only in top-level research but also in translating it into technologies and products that positively impact our quality of life.”

The patent ranking is published by the U.S. National Academy of Inventors (NAI), which emphasizes that U.S. patent grants enable academic institutions and other innovators to translate technological originality into competitive products in the global marketplace and to create meaningful impact for society.

The NAI ranking is based on U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) data for 2025 and includes 100 institutions representing approximately 10,000 patents.
