At the Forefront of AI
CSRankings ranks the Technion first in Europe in AI based on 2005–2025 data
The Technion continues to demonstrate global leadership in computer science research, ranking first in Israel and Europe and 21st worldwide in the international CSRankings index. Based on the number of peer-reviewed conference papers published by Technion researchers between 2005 and 2025 at the world’s leading conferences in the field, the ranking underscores the Technion’s exceptional strength across the full spectrum of AI subfields, placing it among the world’s top 60 universities in each. In one subfield in particular, Machine Learning, the Technion is ranked first in Israel, first in Europe, and tenth worldwide.
The Technion’s deep and sustained activity across a wide range of AI fields is reflected, among other things, in the recruitment of researchers and students from across all Technion units to advance interdisciplinary research in artificial intelligence, in updating teaching methods and curricula, and in expanding the number of programs and new initiatives in various AI domains in collaboration with leading companies in knowledge-intensive industries and with leading universities and research institutions around the world. The Technion has an artificial intelligence community comprising approximately 150 researchers from a wide range of faculties, who work across all areas of artificial intelligence and lead the Technion’s many collaborations with industry and academia in these fields.
According to Prof. Danny Raz, Senior Executive Vice President, “This international recognition stems from a long-term strategy to advance AI research at the Technion and from substantial investment in this field. The Technion pursues a broad range of activities to promote research excellence in AI, including exposing graduate students to leading global AI practices; fostering interdisciplinary research collaborations (including through dedicated centers such as the Zimin Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine); an up-to-date commercialization policy; and the establishment of meaningful partnerships with leading companies. Hundreds of our faculty members apply advanced AI-based methods across a wide range of fields, including data science, medical research, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, architecture, and biology, and I am confident this trend will only intensify.”
Many of the Technion’s AI research achievements have been translated into commercial applications. Among the AI-based companies established through T3, the Technion’s technology transfer arm, are: Firefly Neuroscience (brain health), founded by Dr. Shahaf Goded, which went public in 2024; DECI AI (deep learning), founded by Prof. Ran El-Yaniv and acquired by NVIDIA; Autobrains (autonomous vehicles), founded by Prof. Yehoshua Zeevi; Barcode Nanotech (in-body particle transport for therapeutic purposes), founded by Prof. Avi Schroeder; Pickommerce AI Robotics (robotics), founded by Prof. Elon Rimon; Nol8 (data processing), founded this year by Prof. Mark Silberstein; Metasight Diagnostics (bioinformatics), founded by Prof. Tomer Shlomi; and SleepAI (sleep research), founded by Prof. Joachim Behar.
