{"id":83947,"date":"2014-08-18T06:20:14","date_gmt":"2014-08-18T03:20:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.technion.ac.il\/blog\/shanghai-ranking-2014\/"},"modified":"2014-08-18T06:20:14","modified_gmt":"2014-08-18T03:20:14","slug":"shanghai-ranking-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.technion.ac.il\/en\/blog\/shanghai-ranking-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"Shanghai Ranking 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 dir=\"ltr\">Shanghai Ranking 2014: Technion consolidates its place\u00a0among the world\u2019s top universities<\/h2>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\">Ranked 18th in the world in computer science;\u00a0moves up to 43rd place in engineering<\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Technion has consolidated its position as one of the world\u2019s 100 best universities, according to the 2014 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shanghairanking.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU)<\/a><\/strong><\/span> published last Friday (August 15, 2014). The ranking reveals a number of interesting facts about Technion\u2019s position in the global academic elite:<\/p>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n<li>In the field of computer science the Technion ranked 18th in the world for the third consecutive year. This is the highest ranking given to an Israeli institution in any field.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n<li>In the engineering field the Technion was ranked 43rd \u2013 a rise of three spots in comparison with last year\u2019s ranking. The Technion is the only Israeli university in the top 50.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n<li>Technion ranked #78 overall, and with similar rankings for three consecutive years, it has consolidated its position among the top 80 universities in the world.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Reacting to the 2014 Shanghai rankings, Technion president Prof. Peretz Lavie said \u201cIndexes \u00a0and rankings should be regarded with caution, especially when a fraction of a point either way can alter a university\u2019s rankings from year to year. Nonetheless, the Shanghai ARWU is the leading ranking of world universities and it continues to compliment Israeli science in general, and the Technion in particular.
