"Smart Junction" is a 2 years project funded by the Israeli national road safety authority, carried out by the Transportation research institute in the Technion in Israel . The goal of the research is to check feasibility and develop a prototype of a device "smart signal for non-signalized intersection" , which is assisting the driver in the secondary way in a non-signalized intersection to obtain correct crossing decisions. The device is a system installed in the intersection, observes the cars arriving to the intersection - using video cameras - and detects hazardous situations. When the system detects a hazardous situation it operates a system of lights, not entirely unlike traffic signals, for the driver in the secondary way. In the primary way, as today, the driver does not receive any signals.
