The Israel Society for Quality


The Israeli Society for Quality (ISQ) one of the world's leading quality societies, was established in 1973 to promote the values of quality in Israel. It is a non-profit organization comprised of about 1,500 quality professionals including engineers, physicians, educators and managers drawn from both the business and public sectors. Furthermore, roughly 200 of the country's leading companies are members of the Society.

Quality - Strategy for a Better Life

The 21st Century holds tremendous promise in terms of quality. Life expectancy is one the rise and modern technology coupled with increased productivity enable man to fulfill his needs more easily. Consequentially, people are becoming increasingly aware of the quality of life - the environment, personal conduct, and the quality of products and services. ISQ is seizing this opportunity to define its goals and strategy for the approaching millennium.

The Israeli Society for Quality's Objective:
In recognition of the multi-faceted role quality professionals play in the "quality revolution" and in light of the need to make society recognize quality as a value concept in which man is essential to the process, members of ISQ volunteer their efforts to accomplish the following:

The Structure of the Society and its Institutions

Bi-annually, members of ISQ elect a Managing Committee which, in turn, selects the Society's Chairman, Deputy Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer.
The Managing Committee is also responsible for naming chairpeople for the following active committees:
- The Control Committee
- The Ethics Committee
- The International Relations Committee
- The Contribution to the Community Committee
- The Elections Committee
- The Events Committee
- The Training and Certification Committee
- The Public Relations Committee
- The Editors Committee
- The Strategic Planning Committee
- The Nominations Committee
- The Quality Methodology Committee
All those holding elected positions within the Society serve two-year terms on a voluntary basis. A salaried General Director manages ISQ's regular-activities.

Continuous Activities for the Promotion of Quality in Israel

The professional activities of the Israeli Society for Quality is divided into seven branches: * Quality in Education * Quality in Healthcare * Quality in Construction * Quality in the Chemical and Process Industries * Quality in Metrology and Calibration *Reliability Section.
In parallel to the branch activity, ISQ sponsors and organizes a large spectrum of activities which include:
  • An annual National Quality Conference for professionals from Israel. Bi-annually, the conference is held in an international format with hundreds of quality specialists from abroad joining their Israeli counterparts.
  • Regularly held professional meetings addressing topics related to quality.
  • Quality Week in Israel.
  • The publication of "Quality Magazine" and update leaflets.
  • As one of the founders of the Center for Quality and Excellence in the Israeli Prime Minister's Office, ISQ members serve on the Center's Steering Committee and are involved in the National Training Center for Quality and National Information Center for Quality.
  • Serving on judging committees of the Yitzhak Rabin National Awards for quality in Industry, the Public Sector and Training.
  • Serving as the exclusive Israeli representative of the American Society for Quality Control (ASQC) and in its name giving certification tests for the following:
    - Certified Quality Engineers (CQE)
    - Certified Reliability Engineers (CRE)
    - Certified Quality Technicians (CQT)
    - Certified Quality Auditors (CQA)
    - Certified Quality Managers (CQM)
    To date, more than two thousand Israeli quality professionals have been certified by the Society to hold these ASQC titles.
  • Certifying quality engineers and technicians.
  • Sponsoring courses and seminars on quality topics related to industry, business and public services.
  • Initiating and supporting courses and degree programs on the subject of quality in universities.
    In cooperation with the Center for Quality and Excellence in the Prime Minister's Office, ISQ provides scholarships towards second and third degrees in Quality Sciences at Israeli universities.
  • Serving on National Standards Committees.
  • Having representatives of ISQ in the Quality Committee of the Ministry of Defense.
  • Participating in professional and public forums concerning the promotion of quality.
  • Sponsoring quality activities in the youth movements.

    The International Activities

    Bi-annually, ISQ organizes the International Quality Conference.
    The Society serves as the sole Israeli representative of ASQC. It also has a mutual agreement with the European Organization for quality (EOQ).
    Representatives of the Israeli Society serve on committees of the American and European associations.
    ISQ is one of the founders of the International Quality Association and the Quality Organization of the Middle East and North Africa.
    Members of ISQ take an active role in the International Standards Committees.

    I.Policy
    Only those who uphold the values of quality and practice them can be candidates for membership in ISQ.
    II. The Required Conditions:
    1. Membership is based on the acceptance of the Society's Ethics Rules.
    2. Suitable formal education, academic degree and a registration certificate as a Certified Technician or Engineer.
    3. At least five years of applied professional experience.
    4. Certification from a recognized quality organization.
    5. Having a defined role relating to quality.
    6. Students accepted on a special status.
    7. Membership-fees must be paid annually.

    Institutional Membership

    Institutional members of the Society include factories and companies in industry, trade and services. Institutional membership in the Society entitles the business to the following range of services:
    1. Once a year, upon request, the Society will hold a seminar on quality topics in the member's premises.
    2. Using ISQ's employee pool.
    3. Discount for the Society's activities.
    4. The name of the business will appear in "Quality Magazine" as a new member.
    5. A shield of recognition for joining the Society and an annual certificate will be awarded.
    6. Copies of "Quality Magazine" and update leaflets.
