You are cordially invited to attend the Dahlia Greidinger International Symposium on Nutrient Management under Salinity and Water Stress to be held at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel. The symposium dates are February 28 - March 4, 1999. This will be followed by a two day professional tour, March 5-6, 1999.

The aim of the symposium is to promote the exchange of knowledge between researchers, agronomists, technologists and producers concerned with the interaction between fertilizers, salinity and water stress.

Contributions

Contributions are invited in English for all topics. The four day symposium will consist of keynote lectures, voluntary oral presentations and posters. Papers presented at the symposium will be published, subject to an editorial review, in a proceedings volume.

Final decision regarding the assignment of voluntary presentations as oral papers or posters will be made by the organizational committee after receiving the abstracts.

ABSTRACTS printed on one page (approx. 500 words) should be sent on good quality paper and include: title, authors’ names and addresses and key words. Due date for receiving abstracts is 15 November 1998.

PAPERS prepared according to the standards of SSSAJ or European J Soil Science should be sent in three copies. Due date for receiving papers is 15 February 1999.

 

Registration

The registration fee of those paying before 15 November, 1998 is $200. Student fee is $70. The fee covers transportation in Haifa, lunches and coffees, and a portion of the publication cost.

The registration fee after 15 November 1998 is $250 ($85 for students).

Tours, Accommodations and Airport Transportation

We will be coordinating with Ami Lloyd Tours and Travel in arranging accommodations and tours. Participants are expected to cover their own travel, accommodations, additional meals and tour expenses. The organizers will endeavor to keep these costs at a minimum. Please fill out the registration/payment form to inform us of your travel requirements. Hotel and tour costs can be paid at the time of the symposium to the travel agency by cash, Traveler’s Checks or a major credit card, such as Visa or MasterCard.

Professional Tour: The two day professional tour, March 5-6, will focus on management of saline soils in the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea region. A visit to Masada will be included along with a possible visit to the Dead Sea Works. Lodging will be at Kibbutz Ein Gedi. The cost of the professional tour, which includes bus fare, one night accomodations and a breakfast and a dinner, is for a double room $338 and for a single room $ 198.

Companions’ Program: This program will include three guided tours. Two half day tours in the vicinity of Haifa and one full day to the Galilee region. The tours will run provided there is a minimum of 15 participants. Half day tours to Acre or Megiddo cost $30 per person. The full day tour to the Galilee costs $42 per person.
